What to expect at your first party:

-We'll start off the party with introductions as it's important to build a piano community among students.
-After we get to know each other, you'll participate in a group activity. At our last party, students were challenged to solve a tricky rhythm by learning how to write counting into their scores.
-Students then enjoy lectures about piano repertoire, playing with confidence, and perfecting stage presence.
-Students will be asked to perform a piece they have prepared with their teacher during their weekly lesson.
-Then it's the instructors turn to encourage and inspire students by performing for them!

Snacks and discussion follow to conclude the party!

FAQs

AM I TOO OLD TO LEARN?
Only if you think so! Check out this article about the benefits of starting piano in your 50s and 60s. If you are in your 20s, 30s or 40s, however, don't wait another moment. Research indicates that learning a musical instrument will sharpen your mental and physical skills as well as provide a relaxing and social outlet after busy day of work.

WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH?
All styles from classical to blues to jazz to rock. Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be.

WHAT ABOUT THE BASICS?  WILL I LEARN THOSE?
Like any sport, their are basic drills and skills you will want to attain in order to play the music you love and have fun doing it.  Your teacher will help you develop your tool box of basic skills according to your goals. Your tool box may include: reading, writing, technique, theory, transposition, improvisation and playing by ear. And, you will still incorporate your favorite songs into lessons.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN THE PIANO?
Most students will play some simple songs within the first few weeks of lessons. However, there is so much repertoire and skills to learn that you may well end up finding this becomes a life long pursuit. If you want to become an expert, definitely plan on putting in 10,000 hours!

DO I NEED A PIANO?
You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple, full-size, electronic keyboard will suffice at the beginning. When you are ready to get a piano, your teacher will recommend some good brands and give you a checklist of things to look for.
