We Are Moving! by Holly Kennedy

We will consolidate and move, tempoarily to 1130 S Wabash. Paid street parking is available between 9th Street and Roosevelt on Wabash. There is also a paid parking lot on the north side of the building. *2227 will get you in the main door. Go straight up the stairs. We are the first door on the right. We hope you will find this location and space comfortable while we search for our permanent home.

What we loved and What's New!
Our 5 years at Daystar Community Center has been enjoyable and we are sad to leave the stimulating community, excellent Overflow coffee and beautiful orange wall, which Ms Emily and I lovingly painted! However we will be taking the very best parts with us - our teachers, students and Mason & Hamlin Grand. We are, also, looking forward to welcoming another excellent instrument to our collection - a Yamaha hybrid upright which has the dual benefits of both an acoustic and digital piano. This means that you'll not only continue to develop strong finger action and technique; but you'll also be able to record yourself and simulate playing different types of pianos - a Steinway vs Bosendorfer, for example!

Don't get Too Comfortable Yet...
If 2018 taught me anything, personally and professionally, change is uncomfortable but exciting and brings opportunity, growth, and wonderful people into your life just at the right moment. Its my hope that 2019 will be like that for all of us at South Loop Piano Lessons. I hope that we can enjoy our experience at 1130 S Wabash and push forward towards finding our "forever" home. A home that will effectively help us learn, grow and enjoy a burgeoning community of piano playing peers and their fans. If you spy a location in our South Loop community that you think would be just perfect for us, please reach out to me at holly@southlooppianolessons.com.

Sammy's Practice Paws by Sammy Samoyed

Hi! My name is Sammy and I'm reporting from my home studio where I practice 15 minutes a day. I dont always want to practice. Sometimes I'd rather play chase the ball with my friend Keanu (see us at the bottom. I'm the good looking one!) Sometimes its really hard but I practice anyway. Mom says I have to before I can go out and play. My Mom is pretty smart. She tells me that I'll be really grateful when I get older but I'd really just prefer to eat a treat. Anyway, my Mom has asked me if I'll write an article each month for our newsletter when I'm not practicing or playing. Bark at you later. - Dont Keanu and I look great?

Student Heroes

PictureIdara at her first Piano Party
We are starting a new project to tell the stories of our student heroes (and often their parents) - those that uplift and inspire us.

Students like Cecelia and her Dad who worked through a lot of fear to come to and perform at her first Piano Party; but, in the end, Did It! She was really awesome.

Students like Rugmani who wanted to learn to play all her life and, finally, now in her 30s, is Doing It and loving learning to play, I Just Called to Say I Love You!

Through a series of recorded interviews and pictures, we are going to ask:

1. What has been challenging for you or what have you always wanted to do but couldn't?

2. How are you overcoming or doing it now?

Please volunteer to share your story!

Ms Laura's Spring Break Trip to Disney

Picture
Ms. Laura and her family recently went on an amazing trip to Disneyworld  in Orlando! Using the Orlando Hilton as home base, they first sought out adventure at Universal Studios, where Ms. Laura's son JV was able to cast spells all over Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, two of the Harry Potter themed parks at Universal.  They drank butterbeer, rode Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and Escape from Gringotts!

Disneyworld's Magic Kingdom was the next stop, and highlights included the rides Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, Peter Pan, Swiss Family Treehouse, and a few amazing live shows.  Orlando was 80 degrees and gorgeous, and hard to leave!  But Ms. Laura and her family are very happy to return to their sweet Chicago home, as well as the beautiful piano playing and music making that helps make home so happy!
